Autumn in the Minervois and at Au Pont Romain

We had a marvellous summer, wonderful times with our regular guests and meeting  great new people.

We had our 3rd annual Au Pont Romain quiz in July, a really good evening with the usual mind boggling array of questions washed down with some great Belgium beer.

We really enjoyed our visit to Bize Minervois for the ‘Tastes en Minervois’ on Sunday 3rd September. We were able to try some of the few Minervois wines that we haden’t yet tried and sample some of the regions best cuisine.

We also had our first Musical event for the fans of the band ‘ Bruise’, which consists of my brother, Jim and sister-in-law Isobel. They played a very moving concert in Caunes, playing some of their new folk songs, which they perform under the name of The Kimberley’s. There was also a Wine tasting, three course evening meal and breakfasts provided by us, and music provided by Jim and Isobel in and around Au Pont Romain. Many of the guests joined in with a variety of instruments that they had brought with them.

The weekend was a great success, everyone had a brilliant time and made some great new friends.

We officially had the driest period from May to October on record, but despite having a long, very hot summer, the ‘Vendange’ (grape picking) was very good. Andy as usual picked for Iréne at the ‘Clos du Marbrier’ in Caunes and helped with pressing some of the grapes for the Rosé and White wine.

The Chambre D’Hote has done well with most weeks filled during the summer.People have also enjoyed long weekend breaks walking in the beautiful Minervois autumn, and or visiting some of the many markets.
